Opportunities down the Playing Fields

Volunteer Opportunities – Playing Fields Association Committee (Heyford Sports Club)

Down the playing fields, we’ve got a range of sports and activities that cater for just about everyone’s needs and are as good as anywhere in the county and maybe the country.

We recognise that the social area and changing rooms are now past their sell by date, fortunately we’ve got a small group of people who are focusing on getting new changing rooms in place, that will serve us for many years into the future.

What we are now looking for is some new people to come onto the playing fields committee and some additional volunteers who just want to ‘lend a hand’ on jobs like cutting the grass.

Getting involved does require some commitment, however in return you’ll get an enormous amount of satisfaction from seeing how the facilities are enjoyed by so many people from the village and the local community.

If you’d like to understand a bit more about what’s involved as a committee member or as a volunteer to ‘lend a hand’, with no obligation, please pick up the phone and call:

Rising Star Sports – April 2020

Rising Stars Sports

“My name is Theo and I’m 8 years old. I have been going to Rising Stars Sports club for 3 years during the holidays. I like all the sports especially ball games because it involves moving around lots and throwing balls.”

“I enjoy going to Rising Stars Sports because I can keep active and make friends while having fun.” Alfie-Jack

I am so pleased to see how Rising Stars Sports has developed over the years since the business started. Each school holiday we’re able to run multiple camps with participant numbers reaching between 15-20! I am very lucky to have full support from the Bliss Charity School. We are able to use their sports equipment, the school hall and the playground. It is also handy having the village green to use as this allows us to run a greater variety of sports.

Our numbers are increasing with children not only from the Bliss Charity school, but also other schools in the local area. I am really pleased with this as it allows the children to meet new friends and keeps more local children active, having fun and learning new skills during the holidays.

For details on our next camps please visit our website: www.risingstarssports.co.uk or contact us via email: risingstarssports@hotmail.com

The Bliss Charity School – Governor Vacancy – February 2020

Governor Vacancy – The Bliss Charity School

As a result of a recent retirement, The Bliss Charity School has a vacancy for a Governor.

What do Governors do?

The volunteer Governing Body provides strategic leadership and accountability at The Bliss Charity School. It has three key functions:

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school
    and its pupils
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

The Governors set the aims and objectives for the school and set the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives. We monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making and act as a source of challenge and support to the headteacher.

What sort of person are we looking for?

Schools need a range of professional knowledge (in addition to education) on the governing body including finance, human resources, legal, marketing and public relations, property and estates management, and organisational change.

We are particularly keen to hear from those from a finance/accountancy background, or with buildings/facilities management experience, but this is not essential. The most important attributes are time to dedicate to attending meetings a few times per school term (usually early evenings), and a commitment to supporting school staff to enable every pupil to achieve their potential.

Do I have to have a connection with the School or the Village already?

Absolutely not! It is important for us to find someone from beyond the immediate
families of pupils of the School on this occasion, as we already have a number of
parents on the Governing Body.

It is not necessary to be a resident of Nether Heyford, so please do share this vacancy with anyone you think may be interested in the position.

For more information we would welcome enquiries to the Clerk to the Governors, Lynn Adey who can be contacted by calling into School, by telephoning School on 01327 340758 or by email bursar@bliss.northants.sch.uk
