Heyford Cricket Club – September 2019

HCC

The season is going well for the adult cricketers at Heyford CC. The 1st XI are still at the top of Division 3 but have had their lead slashed following 3 consecutive defeats against beatable opposition. The 2nd XI remain in second place in Division 8 having beaten the league leaders twice, but recently slipped up against rivals Wellingborough OGs 2nd XI in the battle for the three promotion spaces. It looks like being an exciting climax to the season!

Junior Cricket ended strongly, with our 40 All Stars enjoying a water balloon cricket activity at their last session, and the U11s winning their first game! It was fantastic to see the improvement of the children during the coaching sessions, well done to all the children and coaches at the Club for an enjoyable summer. We will be in touch shortly about plans for winter nets and cricket in 2020.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Fun Day at the Playing Fields in June, and
the Golf Day at Whittlebury Hall in July. These events raised a huge amount of
money for the Club and will go a long way towards paying for a new roller for the square, providing some more seating for spectators and practice equipment for both adults and juniors.

Patrons and Sponsors Day – 14th September:
We will be hosting a Patrons and Sponsors Day on 14th September, to thank all our patrons and sponsors for their generous support and financial contributions to the Club. The 1st XI will be playing at home against Wollaston (midday start), and we will be putting on some extra tea and a glass of bubbles for everyone who can make it along! Tea is usually served at about 3pm, and the bar will be open all afternoon. We hope you can join us for some or all of the afternoon.

Village Hall – News – September 2019

Since our fete in June, we have been asked several times: ‘how did you do?’ In view of the awful weather, especially in the morning, we were resigned to raising less than previous years. However, we are pleased to report that we actually raised a net £3,148.69 – an amazing result, due mainly to the generosity and hard work of so many people: individuals, groups, organisations and businesses, including a recent donation from Starbucks. We repeat our heartfelt thanks to them all – what a great village we live in.

Now, we’re beginning to look forward to next year, which will mark the 60th anniversary of the building of our village hall – entirely by volunteers. We want to celebrate this event in great style and are already considering ways of doing this. But we would welcome your ideas too – any suggestions? If so, please contact Alwyne on 07814 898 336 or email: alwyne76@gmail.com

Finally, on a sadder note, our Secretary, Laura Sullivan, is having to stand down due to the pressures of other commitments, so we are currently seeking a volunteer to join our friendly team to help manage the hall. The Management Committee meets 11 times year, with meetings rarely lasting more than 1 ½ hours. The post mainly involves taking minutes, keeping records, being the contact with outside agencies and, if possible, helping with our fundraising events. A handover and continued support will be available. If you think you may be interested and would like to know more, please ring Alwyne on: 07814 898 336.

Heyford Cricket Club – July 2019

HCC

The season has started superbly at Heyford with the 1st XI currently sitting top of Division 3, and the 2nd XI firmly in the promotion places of Division 8. There is still a long way to go, but 2019 is shaping up to be another exciting and successful season for the Club.

This year we have 40 children between the ages of 5-8 involved in the ECB’s All Stars Cricket initiative, and a group of U11s who are excited to be playing their first competitive fixtures.

We are planning a Fun Day on Sunday 30th June, the highlight of which will be a ‘friendly’ game of cricket against a Bugbrooke Rugby FC XI. The bar will be open, England v India will be on the TV and there will be various stalls and activities to enjoy. Everyone is welcome, so please come and support!

If you would like to take part in our Golf Day at Whittlebury Hall on Friday 19th July then please get in touch. Last year’s event was a great success and this year’s looks even better.

Pensioners Meal Club – April 2019 – Cook Wanted

As villagers may or may not know, there has been a pensioners meal club run in the village for many years now. However due to a change of circumstances and work commitments, my wife and I are no longer able to run the meals club.

We have run this meal club ourselves for the last 7 years approx and before that it was run by another couple from the village who left the village so were unable to continue to run the club hence we then took the club over. When we started there were around 18 members, we now have in excess of 50 members and more and more enquiries every week.

The club runs on the first Thursday of every month and is a once a month meal club but could be run as often as weekly if anyone wanted to do this, or just keep to how it is at the moment. It was a very emotional last meal club on the 7th March when we had to tell everyone that we could no longer run the club due to our immediate work commitments and also we will be very sad if we cannot find anyone to carry the club on.

So is there any one out there who would be prepared or able to take on this meal club and keep it going? We would give any advice to any interested people and explain how the club runs at the moment. There is a fantastic team of helpers who have helped us over the years to serve and wash up etc and with them the club would not have been as successful as it is, I am sure most of these will still be able to help run the club but they feel they could not fully run the club on the same scale as it is run at present. MY WIFE AND I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE TO ALL OF THE HELPERS DURING OUR YEARS OF RUNNING THE CLUB.

We really hope there is someone out there who is able to cook for around fifty people once a month or more if they want and keep the club running.
