Heyford Bowls Club – April 2019

Indoor

Our last match in the Wardington League was played on the 6th February at
Boddington. It proved to be a hard fought game. Heyford lost the match with a loss on one mat and a draw on the other.

Our next club competition, the MIXED SINGLES, will be played on Saturday 27th
April, start time 1.30pm. This will be very highly contested, so names down please in the usual way.

Our annual fixture, the outdoor v the indoor, which seems to come round very
quickly, will be played on the outdoor green on Saturday 20th April, start at 2pm. This game of course will depend on green condition and weather.

Thanks to all our members, good support is being maintained at our Wednesday
bowling sessions.

Outdoor

April sees the start of the outdoor bowls season. At the time of writing we don’t know when the green will be open. That will be decided at the next committee meeting on 2nd April. What we do know is that the first home game will be against the club’s short mat section on Saturday 20th April, the same day as the Quiz Night in the Village Hall at 7.00pm. A week later our first game against another club is at Cogenhoe.

Also, on the social front our Fish and Chip supper night is on Saturday 6th April in the Village Hall.

More next month on our Open Day on Sunday 26th May. In the meantime, if you want to find out more about Heyford Bowls Club, give me a call. I won’t bite.

Heyford Bowls Club – March 2019

The DAVE JULAND PRESIDENT’S CUP competition took place on Saturday 9th
February with six teams of players participating. The early rounds consisted of two matches each; the two highest scoring teams then proceeding into the final. After a very entertaining afternoon the seven end final proved to be a hard fought encounter. The eventual winners were Rosemary Dunkley, Bernard Alder and Morris Freeman over Chris Phillips, Rosemary Haddon and Den Taylor by the close score of 6-5.

Our last match in the Wardington League was played on Monday 4th February.
Heyford’s two teams of bowlers were in excellent form and recorded a very high
scoring win on both mats. This was one of our best wins, producing maximum points. With five wins out of six we are now sitting very handy in the league.

Indoor bowls competitions are again in the pipeline with the LADIES PAIRS on
Saturday 23rd March. Entrants names as usual on the notice board. This is a well
supported event so ladies please let us have as many bowlers as possible.

Members support is very strong maintaining very good attendances for both our
Wednesday bowling sessions. New members are settling in very well and enjoying
their bowling.

Heyford Bowls Club – February 2019

It is nice to report 2018 turned out to be a very good year for the indoor bowls section and good turnouts were maintained throughout the year. The afternoon bowls have recruited several new members so well done to the loyal supporters of afternoon bowls for creating and maintaining a very enjoyable afternoon bowling section.

The fun night on Wednesday 9th December turned out to be another hilarious occasion. A good turnout saw three very different types of games played. A good turnout produced by the new format turned out to be a very enjoyable evening.

2019 will see the start of another year’s bowling competitions. Last year these produced some excellent bowling. Competition was keen, making it hard to win a trophy. Our first competition (THE DAVE JULAND PRESIDENT’S CUP) will be played on Saturday 9th February, 1.30pm start.

Our two (WARDINGTON LEAGUE) matches resulted in a mixed bag. A loss at home and a win away at Middleton Cheney.

Thank you to all our members for making 2018 a successful and happy year for the indoor bowls section. Good luck to all our bowlers in the coming year.
