The next film to be screened will be Widows. This is a 2018 American film directed by Steve McQueen starring Liam Neeson and Elizabeth Debicki set in Chicago where an armed robbery goes wrong and leaves the four thieves dead after a police shoot-out. It is the story of the four widows, Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle who have nothing in common except a debt left behind by their spouses’ criminal activities. Hoping to forge a future on their own terms, Veronica joins forces with the other three women to pull off a heist that her husband was planning.

The film is to be shown in the Village Hall on Thursday 16th May and is the last of the current season.

Doors open at 7:15 pm for free coffee or tea with a film start at 7:45 pm.

The admission price remains at £4.00 per person and there is no joining fee.

Our next film to be shown on Thursday 18th April is ‘Stan and Ollie’, a 2019 British film starring Steve Coogan and John C Reilly. Laurel & Hardy, one of the world’s great comedy teams, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future. As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans. The tour becomes a hit, but Stan & Ollie can’t quite shake the spector of Laurel and Hardy’s past; the longburied ghosts, coupled with Oliver’s failing health, start to threaten their precious partnership. A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative marriages, they are aware that they may be approaching their swan song, trying to rediscover just how much they mean to each other.

Our next film to be shown on Thursday 21st March is ‘The Death of Stalin’, a 2017 British ‘black’ comedy drama written by Armando Iannucci and starring Michael Palin and Simon Russel Beale about the bumbling carryings-on in the aftermath of Stalin’s death in Soviet Russia. This is a highly rated film – one not to be missed. Don’t be put off by the title!

Our next film to be shown on Thursday 21st February is ‘Lion’, a 2016 biographical drama starring Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman about a 5 year old Indian boy, Saroo, who gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India and away from his home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Calcutta before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. 25 years later and armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination and a new technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally returns to his first home.
